Renowned for its superb heat retention, even heat distribution and durability, cast iron has been used for cooking for more than 2000 years. Our enamel-coated shallow casserole is ideal for cooking curries, pasta, desserts and lots more besides - we've even baked bread in it. Thanks to its smart grey ombre enamel outer coating, it's smart enough to take to the table for serving too. And we've also included a few other features in the range as a whole that we think give it the edge over other brands. About the range Cast iron cookware is built to last. That's why lots of us will probably have one or two pieces in our kitchens that have been passed down through the years. So when we set about developing our own cast iron range, we listened to what you told us. The result is this beautiful range that performs exceptionally well and includes some of the features you felt were missing from other cookware you can buy. It's a range we're confident you'll want to pass on to the next generation, and that compares more than favourably with other more expensive brands. There's no getting round the fact that cast iron is heavy, so we've given these enamel-coated pieces large, curved carry handles that you can get your hands comfortably and safely under, even when wearing oven gloves, making each piece much easier to get in and out of the oven or take to the table for serving. We've also included a bigger than usual knob on top for ease of use and, to avoid the food traps that can make them difficult to clean, the lids have no screw underneath. Offering superb heat retention and even distribution, cast iron is suitable for all kinds of cooking in the oven up to 260°C and on all hobs, including induction - and you can even bake bread in the casserole dishes. We've used a Lakeland 26cm Shallow Round Cast Iron Casserole in our Butternut Squash, Roasted Pepper & Sage Risotto recipe.
